FAQs
Who is the Grampian Challenge For?
Anyone can race! The course will provide a great challenge for all abilities and even if you are newcomer to to a ride like this, with proper preparation you will be all set. Even if you are not a competitive racer and just like to get out and enjoy the ride, this will be one you don’t want to miss.
What type of bike can I ride?
Just about anything you want aside from a full blown road bike. Mountain bikes, Cyclecross, Single Speeds, and Tandems are all welcome to ride.
Is the course open to vehicle traffic?
Yes, the public roads are open to vehicle traffic. The rules of the road will apply, i.e. stop at all stop signs, yield to cars, no more than 2 riders abreast and stay on the right hand side of the road. We will make provisions to have local sheriffs and/or race staff at many key intersections. Please see the race rules for more details on road etiquette.
Where is the Grampian Challenge?
The race is hosted out of Addison Oaks County Park which is located about 5 miles east of the towns of Lake Orion and Oxford on the M-24 corridor and about 9 mile north of Rochester.

How will the race start?
The race will start at 10:00AM. Depending on the final number of entries, we may use a couple waves to break up the field. Waves will be dictated by category so that faster riders will go off first. Waves will be 3-5 minutes apart. We do not anticipate more then 3-4 waves. The exact number and timing of waves will be determined as we see the total number of racers.
What race swag can I expect?
All racers will receive a 2012 Grampian Challenge pint glass included with their registration fee. Some very nice Grampian Challenge event shirts will be available for purchase at the time of your registration.
I am competitive, what types of awards are we looking at?
Race field and sponsor dependant, we plan to put together a cash purse for the Open category racers. We also hope to have lots of great gear prizes up for grabs in other categories. We will also be creating some unique Grampian Challenge specific “trophies”. These will be unique items that you will want to display with pride, not just another medal or plaque to collect dust.
What will the post race scene look like?
More to come on this front as the plans develop. The intention is a nice awards ceremony and most likely at least some type of food along with raffles and great give-aways. Addison Oaks will provide a great family atmosphere and there will be plenty of room for you and the family to hang out post race. There is always the potential for beer to flow into those new Grampian Challenge pint glasses and we might even have a band to keep the entertainment rolling as the final racers roll in. Again look for more on this as the race draws near.
